About Me

My photo
As many of you already know, Zach fell off his skateboard on Saturday Sept. 6th. As a result of the fall, Zach suffered a traumatic, closed head injury and is listed in critical condition in the ICU at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Zach is currently under sedation and being kept in a paralytic state to help keep his intra cranial pressure as low as possible, which will help decrease the swelling in his brain. He has been placed in a RotoProne bed, which will help his lungs combat pneumonia which recently set in. Everyone is hopeful and optimistic regarding Zach’s long-term prognosis. The Monday after the accident, Zach was able to move his legs, arms, toes and even squeezed his mother’s hand on command. He has a long journey to recovery ahead of him, but he has his youth, great caretakers and a large group of friends and loved ones rooting for him. His family will be keeping this blog in an attempt to keep all of Zach’s friends and loved ones up to date on his condition. Please check back often as we will try to provide daily updates. You may also post your own comments and please know that Zach will read them soon.

Day 55 Feelin Alive

Hey everybody! Zach here! Just want to let you all know that I'm okay enough to do my own blog today. Tired from all the work I've been doing. Physical therapy has me tuckered, much props to Jennifer Cristenbury for that. There are a bunch of different therapies I'm doing that have got my head spinning and my body aching. I don't remember any of the accident and very little of the care I've received. Nevertheless I love the compassionate care I've had, and forget most of the faces that have given it. I don't know what else to write, so I'll have to stop here. I'm walking, working on my balance, and breathing way too hard. Thanks for the love you've sent me. I appreciate all the letters I've gotten and will return your postage as soon as I get free of this place.

THANK YOU ALL
Love,
Zach

Hi Zach - To read a blog YOU wrote and to see a picture of you typing at a computer are indescribably fabulous! We are thrilled for you and your progress, which we hope will continue at the same fast pace which you have shown recently. We also hope your Mom and sister have had a moment recently to catch their breath and to revel in your recovery. You three are truly amazing and inspiring.
With love from Bill, Joanie and Nick Webber

Hi, Zach!!!
I haven't met you or Angela in person, but I've known your mom for many years!!! (We almost had a chance to meet last year in Chapel Hill when your mom, my sister & I came by to drop off my son, Paul, at his place off campus, but we were running out of time & had to get back to Greensboro & Charlotte!) I am so happy that you are "up & at 'em" so soon!!! Thank you for your wonderful first entry into your blog!
Congratulations on your tremendous hard work in rehab! Take care! love to you, Angela, & your mom, Sylvia

Hey Mess,
I've been following the blog everyday and am excited to see you at the computer - I can totally tell you are reading some Home Star Runner on that website. A couple of us are planning to stop in for a visit after Christmas on the way down to Florida. I know you are already looking forward to CWOM08CWOM09ASR already. I'll talk to you in a bit old man.

So good to hear your voice, Zach! Well, see your words... You get the idea. =)

You look terrific- I hope you're feeling good about all the progress you're making.

I'm coming down to Charlotte from DC in a few weeks- can I bring you anything? Let me know, no problemo.

Hey Zach, I'm so glad to be reading posts written by you now. I can still look to you as the person that got me involved in Bike and Build and for that I'm so thankful. I have kind of taken over your role in recruiting this year at UNC and am lucky enough to be participating in the Webber ride in Florida come December. Keep fighting buddy and we'll see ya soon!
