About Me

My photo
As many of you already know, Zach fell off his skateboard on Saturday Sept. 6th. As a result of the fall, Zach suffered a traumatic, closed head injury and is listed in critical condition in the ICU at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Zach is currently under sedation and being kept in a paralytic state to help keep his intra cranial pressure as low as possible, which will help decrease the swelling in his brain. He has been placed in a RotoProne bed, which will help his lungs combat pneumonia which recently set in. Everyone is hopeful and optimistic regarding Zach’s long-term prognosis. The Monday after the accident, Zach was able to move his legs, arms, toes and even squeezed his mother’s hand on command. He has a long journey to recovery ahead of him, but he has his youth, great caretakers and a large group of friends and loved ones rooting for him. His family will be keeping this blog in an attempt to keep all of Zach’s friends and loved ones up to date on his condition. Please check back often as we will try to provide daily updates. You may also post your own comments and please know that Zach will read them soon.

Day 30 & 31st Zach is back...

So let's just start with Sunday...This day the meds were tapered off. Lots of excitement...Glad to have Elon visit. "Zach you turned your head in Elons' direction." (Way to go Zach.) "Then you continued on "pressure support" on the respirator"...good job Zach! "Then you became agitated...moving BOTH your arms. This caused an increase in your blood pressure, heart rate & respirations..to which you were medicated to calm down."

"Tonight, Monday was so very impressive. complete with cheers coming from your room." We arrived tonight at 9pm, to see you sitting up in Bed. You opened your eyes briefly and looked at us! " (You find it hard to keep your eyelids totally open.) "Then you proceeded to respond to many difficult commands such as....moving your thumb, squeezing my hand and releasing the squeeze, moving your big toe, waving (sort of), & most impressive....sticking out your tongue!

What a joy! Zach is Back!
As the Dow plunges, Zach soars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"True heroism consists in being superior to the misfortunes of life." Napoleon
YOU are my hero, Zach.

What a wonderful message and the one we all have been waiting for!! The visual of Zach's re-entry by sticking out his tongue is perfect. We all are cheering for continued and speedy improvement in the days ahead and looking forward to the blog entry telling us that Zach is headed home. With love and best wishes from Bill, Joanie and Nick Webber (Bike & Build - CWM07/08)

JoAnn, Angela, & Zach!!!!
You brought tears of happiness to my eyes when I read your entry just now! What an amazing, exciting thrill & simultaneous sense of relief!!! You (& we) are one the plateau overlooking the view, below, the beautiful hills, valleys, colorful trees, and the winding road that leads to the houses, and back to your cozy home!! We can see you'll be there, in your own time. You are an amazing family of strength and love. Congratulations on these landmark days! Love, Sylvia
